News and Notes from the Band Room!
Well, once again we are deep into the thick of things.
Our grade 3 and 4 students are each learning a song that focuses on the skills of singing, playing a percussion instrument and an orff keyboard instrument. Ask your child to teach you the 3 different parts (words and rhythm patterns) that goes along with their songs.
The grade 5 classes are making great strides on their first instrument. The each class has learned the first 5 notes of a concert Bb scale. Ask your child to play each of these notes for you. Make sure they hold them out for at least 4 slow counts to also show they have good breath support. The percussion students have a double load. They are learning the same 5 notes on the keyboard instruments and then adding rhythm patterns on the drums. Keep working hard grade 5's!
The grade 6 and the 7-9 band students are working really hard to prepare for the Remembrance Day celebration on Wednesday, November 9th at 10:30 AM. We will be playing songs as people are being seated. I do expect students to practice for a minimum of 1 hour per week. I have a practice sheet chart that they can track these hours on. If you would like a copy please send me a quick email and I can send it to you. Your child will have them in their music folders as well.
Believe it or not the Christmas Band Concert is not far off; only 8 short weeks away! Please encourage your child to practice at home as this is the best way to improve. I know the grade 5 stage of learning can be difficult but please continue to cheer on your child and reassure them that with practice come higher skill and a better quality sound. The grade 5 students will be switching to a new instrument shortly.
I am so very proud of the choir students. We have had a fantastic start to the year and are working hard to continue that trend. We have performed for our Opening Mass and the Thanksgiving Celebration already and are working on song selections for Remembrance Day Celebration. Parents, I have added our Choir Rehearsal dates and times to the school calendar, so if you are unsure of practice times and dates please check the website.
So, I continue to upkeep my school website, which has a lot of important info on it AND I will start to add choir info as well. Check it out… misskband.weebly.com
